She was the last star of Hollywood still alive among those named Madonna in her song “Vogue”. American actress Lauren Bacall passed away yesterday at the age of 89. The song, released in 1990, was a hymn to the golden age of Hollywood.
In the lyrics, Madonna cites sixteen emblematic figures of this movement, including Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Marlon Brando, and Lauren Bacall. Nicknamed “The Look,” the actress, who had shared the life of another monster of Hollywood, Humphrey Bogart, made his debut as a model in the 40s for the American magazine “Harper’s Bazaar”.
Madonna co-wrote “Vogue” with producer Shep Pettibone and American DJ, famous for introducing sounds of house music into pop in the late 80s, and one of the pioneers in the remix. In the clip, we see the singer voguing dance, a dance performed in gay clubs since the 30 in Harlem, New York.
