With “Daredevil,” the devil is trying Netflix – Paris Match

After 12 years of absence Marvel revived his blind vigilante Daredevil series. The 13 episodes of the first season are available from Friday on Netflix. Paris Match was watching the first five episodes exclusively. This is what we have thought.

“Arrow”, “Gotham”, ” The Flash “… DC Comics Superheroes invaded the small screen. Marvel Studios, also comics publishing house, are not left out since they launched in 2013 “Agents of SHIELD” and spinoff “Agent Carter.” They decided to revive another of their heroes, “Daredevil”, whose 13 episodes available on Netflix since Friday. Twelve years after a film adaptation criticized by fans and critics, the American giant video on demand and the creators of the series Steven S. DeKnight (“Smallville”) and Drew Goddard (“World War Z”) give its nobility red devil while raising superhero series to the next level.

It quickly and deeply immersed in the dark world of Matthew Murdock. Raised by a father who does not boxer dragged his gloves in ever legal affairs, little Matthew became blind after receiving chemicals on the eyes while trying to save an old man. Adult, he is a lawyer by day, masked vigilante night. His hearing and smell overdeveloped allow it to seek justice in his Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York, plagued by crime, drugs and trafficking of all kinds.

A complex heroes

“Daredevil” The universe can not be summarized in this struggle between good and evil, simply because his hero does nothing an altar boy. Behind his round glasses and his wrinkled suit lawyer hides a man torn between his great humanity, his wrath, which is not at the bottom so different from those he faces. He is a terribly human and realistic, far from some bodybuilders Marvel characters, which is many times by difficulties in his fights, despite his gift for martial arts which he demonstrated in action scenes an impressive sobriety. Due respect to the purists, this simplicity is also reflected in the costume of vigilante who does not lead the hard life criminals in red dress but in a black coat more spartan. The interest of the character also relies heavily on the shoulders of his interpreter Charlie Cox (“Broadwalk Empire”) that perfectly embodies all facets and ambiguities that his enemies call him for now, “the man in the mask black. “

His nemesis, Wilson Fisk, played by the brilliant and imposing Vincent D’Onofrio (” Men In Black “), even more blurred the thin line between good and evil in the series. Its apparent calm and shy face a woman hiding a bloodthirsty monster enemies dare not even pronounce the name. It was later learned that he “does not kill for fun”, but because he wants to, like Daredevil, rid the city of crime that consumes.

A Marvel adult

In addition to these two men tortured, the secondary characters are not stooges tasteless. Foggy Nelson, the friend and associate comic Matthew (Elden Henson) and secretary Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) are a real breath of fresh air, a comical and entertaining break from one series to the stuffy and dark atmosphere up in the color of his images, obscured by a kind of black veil, even during outdoor scenes.

A darkness that echoes the violence of the series that has its share of shocking scenes. Without reaching the brutality of some HBO series like “Game of Thrones” Daredevil is a more adult version as the other Marvel franchises (propriétée Disney note) or superhero series for short as “Arrow” or “The Flash” , they broadcast on mainstream channels. A choice screenplay that one would find in other series that will be born from the collaboration between Marvel Studios and Netflix in pochains months “AKA Jessica Jones, “” Luke Cage “,” Iron Fist “and” The Defenders “which should bring together all these people in one série.
