Belles families excess adventures – L’Express

Yes, Jean-Paul Rappeneau’s a great director. Yes, Belles Families, his new film, is missed. And this failure obviously puts no question the qualities of the man, author, nonetheless, The Castle Life Wild and Cyrano de Bergerac . Thank you sir, including applause.

But I do not understand the mood of the profession – well, if I understand it, but it irritates me – which is striving, more or less honestly, to find Belles Families a thousand qualities are not to protect a writer so admired. The friendly adjectives have also struggled to hide the little delirious enthusiasm. This is not criticism, it’s respect for a man and a work. Well no. Respect does not prevent the scratch.

banal scenario, actors in the sentence

It is the perversion of the authors of the policy should save a great filmmaker whatever his film. Critical discourse loses feathers and the spectator becomes pigeon. Belles Families is a tracery of intrigue around the estate of a house of two feuding brothers, a family secret, an absent son returned with his family, history nascent love …

On the tone of sophisticated comedy like Rappeneau knew how, but the dramatic stakes are so lacking that the film slips on the oilcloth. The staging is elegant, yes, but it does not catch much. The script is banal, the actors are struggling – except Gilles Lellouche, impeccable.

Rappeneau can not do it. And I am sad. His previous film, Bon Voyage, already remained docked. That one too many episodes breaststroke, turns around and changes tone often than socks; scenes with Guillaume de Tonquédec are grotesque, the final 200 meters is visible, Nicole Garcia seems lost, André Dussollier to caricature … They do not know what to play. Float some nice moments in the family home between Amalric and Marine Vacth. Time is suspended and nothing is forced. It is graceful. It’s not enough. It’s finish. Too bad.

Belles Families , by Jean-Paul Rappeneau. 1:53. In theaters.
