Born in the Little Italy of the Big Apple, the young Martin hesitated between becoming a priest or a gangster. It will become one of the greatest directors of his generation. In 50-year career, the filmmaker evokes in his films the American fascination with violence or illegality. He is also interested in more fragile, the misfits, the rebels. One of the main themes of his work is the sibling, the alliance between brothers, blood ties, an alliance undermined by treachery, perjury, alienation because of money, sex and drugs .
This virtuoso achievement, very independent, is far from Hollywood as its guns colleagues Coppola, Spielberg and Brian de Palma.

The exhibition presented to Martin Scorse the Paris Cinematheque uses photographs, costumes, posters, cult objects, storyboards outcome from the private collection of the director in New York. Another part comes from the collection of his great friend and favorite actor, Robert De Niro and that of Paul Schrader. The exhibition sheds light on the sources of inspiration for Martin Scorsese, working methods and shows how his artistic approach to narrative has characterized the modern American cinema.
It is at the Louis Lumière Festival to be held in Lyon from Monday 12 to Sunday, October 18th as Martin Scorsese will receive the Light Award for lifetime achievement, for his generous cinéphilile, for his tireless fight for the preservation of the cinema of the past, for its fictions.
