The Cave of the Pont d’Arc has received its first visitors – Midi Libre

P our opening to the public Saturday, the replica of the Chauvet cave in the Ardèche, had sold all its tickets.

The replica of the Chauvet Cave, rich in cave drawings old 36 000 years, welcomed its first visitors on Saturday morning in Vallon-Pont-d’Arc (Ardèche ).

“All tickets sold out for the day. We expect between 2 500 and 3 000 visitors who all pre-booked their tickets on the Internet,” said chief operating officer Site Antoine Deudon. “It is gray but it is rather positive. It makes you want people to go to the museum or in this case, to the cave,” he added, with a smile.

Shaped bear paw

Listed since June of last year World Heritage of Unesco, it remains closed to the public to preserve the treasure it contains. Faithful to the millimeter, the monumental restitution site in the form of bear paw from the sky, allows visitors to discover an exceptional bestiary in confusing realism.



More 70,000 tickets sold in advance on the Internet

A total of 1000 drawings and 425 animal figures from 14 different species (cave bear, woolly rhinoceros, felines, panther, owl ..) have reproduced charcoal, as did the Aurignacian, our ancestor Homo sapiens, when drawing on the wall. More than 70,000 tickets have been sold to date in advance on the Internet.
