Twenty years later, still has Kassovitz La Haine – Le Figaro

VIDEO – César Award for Best Film in 1995, prices staged in Cannes, this generational work that revealed Vincent Cassel, celebrated its twentieth anniversary. A sequel is in preparation.

This film marked a generation. On 31 May 1995 there was 20 years ago today, La Haine performed by Mathieu Kassovitz came out in theaters. The story takes place the day after a night of rioting between youth and police in the city of Muguets to Chanteloup-les-Vignes.

The riots were the result of the flash of a police inspector who was seriously injured Shokair Abdel Aziz, a young resident of the city during a police custody. It follows the adventures of three young friends of Abdel Ichaha. Vinz, impertinent Jew to violent temper, a thirst for revenge on behalf of Abdel. Hubert, from Benin, hashish dealer, thinks only leave the city for a better life and refuses to provoke the police. Said holds a mediator between Vinz and Hubert about the desire for revenge of the first versus the police.

The news spread in the city that a policeman lost his gun overnight clashes. You learn very quickly that Vinz found it and intends to use it to shoot a police officer if Shokair Abdel Aziz would not come out of the coma in which it is immersed. Hubert disapproves. The black and white film revealed Vincent Cassel to the public. The violence of the suburbs is told on the heady pace of the timer of a time bomb. This generational work has won numerous awards, the César Award for Best Film in 1995 and the price of staging in Cannes.

Asked about France Inter by Léa Salamé in January, the filmmaker Mathieu Kassovitz had announced its intention to make a sequel to his famous film. “If I do, it is in the coming year. But do I want to go at a time when lasting impression is more complicated. I’m not afraid to miss the movie, but I fear he has less impact in a world where everything supersedes all at full speed. If it is just for starters, it does not interest me. La Haine 2 would be very violent and I do not know if the medium is ready to accept it. I also think we should think of another way to spread the film, “he confided.
