Ryan Reynolds: “I fell in love with Deadpool” – Le Figaro

INTERVIEW – The Canadian 39 year-old actor risked wholesale stubbornly want to adapt this foul-mouthed superhero on the big screen. Bet won. To Le Figaro , it evokes the violent character, psycho, yet quite endearing.

Deadpool, imagined antihero in 1991 by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza finally managed to become the hero of his own movie. At 39, Canadian Ryan Reynolds offers a second chance in Hollywood clinging to that character

LE FIGARO – What attracted you to this arrogant character, ? unpredictable psychopath strand

Ryan Reynolds – I fell in love with him 11 years ago. I really wanted to embody this character that I loved and I still love since that time. I actually like Deadpool for many reasons not least because it is unique in the world of comics.

Do you think that as Iron Man have changed the career of Robert Downey Jr., your character will have a great influence in your future on the screen?

I do not know. This does not depend on me. Sometimes there are roles that challenge you in question, which create a real existential crisis in you. And I really think that’s the case for me with Deadpool. We were made to find us. So I do not know if it will be synonymous of future success or failure in my career. But in any case, Deadpool is a true alter ego for me. It was a real meeting. I felt this role naturally and that’s what’s amazing.

This is the first superhero who has as much humor and self-mockery, which makes fun of himself and playing with the audience ….

most of the films have a common thread they follow without ever questioning it. For me, the definition of comedy is precisely spontaneity. When the film has a certain freedom and responds without anyone noticing our expectations. And that’s exactly what Deadpool done anywhere in the film. It was so great to play that role that I never thought I was working for a second. I had the impression of being on holiday.

“I constantly wore my costume Deadpool. Almost 7 days 7. At that point the team insisted that I change after shooting scenes. “

What is your best memory from filming?

No doubt having been wearing the costume. I loved him so much that costume! I’ll tell you a story. I constantly wore my costume Deadpool. Almost 7 days 7. At that point the team insisted that I change after shooting scenes. And I answered: “Come to see me take it off!” (Laughter.)

You’ve played without much success a superhero DC universe, Green Lantern. Do you therefore think that Deadpool is a character that suits you most?

The character of Deadpool existed in me long before I play Green Lantern. I of course liked to play the role of Green Lantern in 2010, but it really is with Deadpool I got hooked.

Do you think there will be a sequel to this first part of Deadpool?

I do not know, it depends on the audience. But I think this will be the case since the studios seem to have already prepared. They know in advance that the concept of Deadpool will work. Just have Deadpool is equal to itself and to the end … But hey, as long as it makes money. (Laughs)

This is the first superhero adult?

Yes, for adults. But also for children as long as they are accompanied by their parents. Finally, I do not know because the film was still produced for teenagers. I do not know how it happens in France. If it is not recommended for younger but in Canada, children are allowed to go see the movie with their parents if they want.

Stan Lee makes an appearance in the film. Have you met during filming?

Yes, of course it is really lovely. Without Stan Lee, there would have been no X-Men. Deadpool would not even be a Marvel. Stan Lee’s incredible. You can make all the movies you want, but without it, you will never have a masterpiece. I really love all comics.

About Hugh Jackman, has he seen the film?

No, Hugh Jackman has not seen it yet, but it is a great friend of mine. I told him all about the movie. He really knows everything. But I will not say anything more. No Spoilers, it’s for the public good.

The film is as violent as rhythmic. With this setting punk scene, “no future”, which is somewhat reminiscent of the legacy of Tarantino. Director Tim Miller he was influenced by his style?

For me, Tarantino one of the greatest directors of his time. He is the master. It can show on the screen scenes of violence with this little music if shifted. We tried to do the same in Deadpool .

Do you think that Tarantino would be starting to realize a next Deadpool ?

I’d love that makes Tarantino. But I do not think he will. He used to make his own creations … In any case, his influence is inevitable in this kind of universe. It’s a legend.

Do you not fear that the character of Deadpool eventually tarnish your career or at least change radically?

Ho! But it’s already done. I see it every day. While the film is not out yet, people accost me in the street. But I got used to now. If people associate me with Deadpool hero does not matter because I really love this character. It is awesome. If they associate me with him, it means above all that I have done a good job.
