Cannes Film Festival: Who are the favorites for the Palme d’Or? – TF1

Cannes Raw 2015 is coming to an end. The jury co-chaired by Joel and Ethan Coen was locked dual-tower Sunday to appoint seven awards including the highly anticipated Golden Palm. The competition brought together nineteen films with recurring themes like love, old age and death. And whether to make predictions, three pieces stand out.

The first big
emotion festival came from Italian Nanni Moretti . With Mi Madre , the story of the existential and professional crisis in facing a director to the illness of his mother, the filmmaker is well placed to win his second Palme d’Or after The House the son in 2001.

But we must be wary of Todd Haynes with a Carol was acclaimed during his visit. This story of a passionate love between two women in Puritan America of the 50s did not raise the crowds but managed to convince its staging and its duo of actresses: Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.

The surprise could finally come the young Hungarian director Laszlo Nemes. For its first participation at Cannes, he landed with The Son of Saul , restoring the horror of the Holocaust without ever showing the victims. A strong film in the memory of the public, and perhaps many jurors.

An even open competition

No love at heart, Cannes is still open and others feature films are eligible for a price. This is particularly the case of The Lobster Greek Yorgos Lanthimos Colin Farrell , Rachel Weisz and Léa Seydoux. Not forgetting Sicario Denis Villeneuve, effective thriller about the drug cartels led by Benicio Del Toro .

With five films competing, France should reach at least get a reward. If Valérie Donzelli and Maïwenn appear offside, the Dheepan Jacques Audiard holds the upper basket. Vincent Lindon , he seems nominated for Best Actor with The Market Act Stéphane Brizé).

Except accident, the Gus Van Sant will likely remain as the biggest disappointment of this edition. Hue repeatedly, The forest of dreams may leave empty-handed.
