This is the card of the summer in the United States: the film NWA: Straight Outta Compton (“Sortis straight from Compton”), which traces the career rappers Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E and DJ Yella (1), recorded $ 111.1 million in revenue in recent weeks, more than 96 million euros. Produced by Andre Rommelle Young (the real name of Dr. Dre) and O’Shea Jackson (Ice Cube says), the film recounts the beginnings of the group NWA, for “niggas with attitude” in the late 80s in the city Compton (southern suburb of Los Angeles).
If some of the facts is fictionalized, as Lonzo Williams (the promoter, producer, owner of nightclubs that discovered Dr. Dre and recorded the first title NWA), the film plays with the usual codes of the genre gangsta: big cars, girls, drugs, weapons, police violence. But controversy has affected the promotion of the film, which ignores domestic violence by Dr Dre. The producer had to apologize in an article in New York Times “There are twenty-five years, I was a young man who drank too much and lack of structure. However, this is in no way an excuse [...]. I apologize to the women to whom I have hurt. I deeply regret what I did. “
