Three years after receiving the Palme d’Or at Cannes for “The Tree of Life” Terrence Malick has this week unveiled the first trailer for his new film, “Knight of Cups”. A film that features Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, and Cate Blanchett.

If we know little about this film that deals with the subject of celebrity and its excesses, Deadline has published a first most mysterious synopsis

” There was once a young prince as

his father, the king of the East, sent to Egypt in search of a pearl. But when the prince arrived, they brought to him a cut. He drank the contents and forgot that he was the son of a king, forgot the pearl and fell into a deep sleep. Rick’s father told him this story as a child. The road to the East is ahead. Will it move forward? “

The Pearl seems to represent a sort of spiritual purpose while the cut is certainly the fame or success.

In the trailer, we find Christian Bale in the shoes a star, which connects the female conquests, parties, and all the excesses that go with celebrity.

The cast of the film also include Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto, Wes Bentley, Isabel Lucas, or Teresa Palmer.

“Knight of Cups”, which still has no release date, will be presented at the opening of the upcoming Berlin Film Festival, which will take place from 5 to 15 February.
