[Avignon Festival] Shakespeare and Argentina to think the Other – Toutelaculture

Yesterday in Avignon today in Paris, Olivier Py presented the program of its second year at the helm of the festival it will open itself in the Courtyard with a King Lear Shakespeare responsible inaugurated fifty events (stage productions and exhibitions) including 35 ginned creations of 4 to 26 July 2015 on a slightly amputated time.

We left Olivier Py last July after a 68th edition ( his first) marked by strikes of the entertainment and the vagaries of the weather that had uncorked on the cancellation of 12 performances and financial loss “overvalued” EUR 300 000; an admittedly unfortunate total but had relatively reassured the audience and occupation in view of the disaster lived a month earlier in Montpellier. This bila, however gave grist to a director who used an alarmist rhetoric of victimhood and to avoid accountability of unequal artistic proposals

Olivier Py same time evoked the prospect of a festival without Boulbon Quarry and shortened a week! In July, the calendar will be reduced as only two days and many places will not actually open to the public, namely the gym Paul Giéra college, Jeanne Laurent space, the garden of Mons, Orchard and the Mint. The mayor of the city reduced its grant of 5% only allows the opening

Olivier Py structured its programming around living authors (whose iconic Novarina present at Carmelite cloister with Le Vivier Names ) and artists never came to the city of the popes: Jonathan Châtel ( Andreas Strindberg), Benjamin Porée ( Trilogy review by Botho Strauss), Samuel Achache ( Fugue ), Laurent Brethome or Olivier Martin-Salvan …

The first of these, by far the eldest but perhaps the youngest and most radical, is a master of Polish theater: Krystian Lupa will at age 70 his first Avignon with the highly anticipated Trees to be felled , biting and incisive text of his favorite author Thomas Bernhard

This will undoubtedly be the big event of the 4th of July , when Olivier Py invest Court realizing a dream thirty years he entrusts to stage King Lear with Philippe Girard in the

title role. Shakespeare will be honored with the coming of the Schaubühne and its director Thomas Ostermeier with a Richard III created in Berlin in February, then with Antonio e Cleopatra ridden by Tiago Rodrigues. The artist and director of the National Theatre Lisbon found there is little in the theater of the Bastille with By Heart , is with his fellow Claudio Tolcachir (revelation of the Autumn Festival 2010), and Mario Pensotti Sergio Boris in the heart of Buenos Aeres a focus on confirming the current leadership affinities with the southern theater

Two must-see exhibitions are announced, the one dedicated to the late Patrice Chéreau at the Collection Lambert and the other to Tadeusz Kantor which we will celebrate the centenary of his birth in La Mirande. Dance and performance will be represented by Angelin Prejlocaj associated with the novelist Lawrence Mauvignier for Back to Berratham , Shechter, Gaëlle Bourges, Fabrice Lambert, Eszter Salamon. Two legendary actresses are expected to brief passages, only one night to Isabelle Huppert who will read Sade and another for Fanny Ardant
