Cannes 2015: the forecasts of films in competition – Le Figaro

While Mad Max: Fury Road has been confirmed out of competition at the Cannes festival, which will feature films selected for the official competition of the Croisette? Le Figaro reported on the rumors.

As usual, most of the date of the Cannes Film Festival is approaching, more rumors are rife on the Croisette on the selected films … or not. For now, the certainties be counted on the fingers of one hand.

The Coen brothers are the presidents of the jury for the official competition, Lambert Wilson will fill again the master of ceremonies and functions Abderrahmane Sissako will head Cinéfondation. The poster makes this year the actress Ingrid Bergman’s honor and Mad Max: Fury Road will be scheduled in the official selection, out of competition. While the announcement of the selection of feature films of the 68th edition of the most prestigious film markets fall on April 16, the time has come early predictions.

● French films

For French films, it is rumored that the eighth feature by Jean-Paul Rappeneau, bringing a beautiful casting – Mathieu Amalric, Karin Viard, Nicole Garcia, André Dussollier, Gilles Lellouche and Marine Vacth ( Young & amp; Jolie ) is likely to be one of the lucky ones. Belles families marks the return of an absent director of theaters for eight years. A dramatic comedy feels Cannes presentation full nose.

Another name circulating everywhere is that of Arnaud Desplechin, ready for the official selection with Our Arcadias , announced as the How I prequel Got Into an Argument … (my sex life) in which the filmmaker tells the youth of its protagonists.

Jacques Audiard, darling of the Croisette, might well have ended his latest project in progress, Erran . Shooting his political drama about culture shock background, loosely based on Persian Letters Montesquieu began in early October 2014. So there is a good chance that this political refugee portrait Tamil, s it comes in time to the editing room, finds its place among the Fortnight director and the official competition.

Vincent Cassel and Emmanuelle Bercot probably go up the stairs at the Cannes Maïwenn arm. And for good reason: the two actors play a couple who split over several years in My King , the new director of the poignant drama Poliss , winner of the Jury Prize in 2011 ?, and perhaps in 2015

Other anticipated French films could benefit from Cannes development: Marguerite and Julien Valérie Donzelli, Evolution Lucile Hadžihalilović, La Belle season Catherine Corsini, The Two Friends Louis Garrel, The head- Emmanuelle Bercot or Love , sexual melodrama signed Gaspard Noé, and why not Microbe and Diesel Michel Gondry, if he comes back in shape after The Surf days (2013), risky and ultimately disappointing adaptation of the eponymous book by Boris Vian.

● Hollywood, but not too

Moulin Rouge (2001) , The Bad Education (2004), Da Vinci Code (2006), and The Great Gatsby and Grace of Monaco the last two years … The tradition is that a film involving several criteria opens the festivities each year, including an event for mainstream film that put eyeful. The film selected for 2015 is fulfilling his contract, since the highly anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road (George Miller) has been confirmed, although it will not open Festival. Its theatrical release is also scheduled for 13 May, the day of its Cannes screening.

The Cannes Film Festival is also an opportunity to discover the films of Hollywood pearl, this handful of American directors who stand out and free themselves from the dictates of the great California studios. This is the case of Gus Van Sant, whose hopes select from the official competition the new feature film, The Sea of Trees (Matthew McConaughey, Ken Watanabe and Naomi Watts). Same for Sean Penn, who has just finished The last face , a love story between Javier Bardem and Charlize Theron on humanitarian drama background filmed in South Africa (Adèle Exarchopoulos is also part of this Mad distribution). Woody Allen, the highbrow New York, spell, as we know, about a film every year. A chance for that Man Irrational , with Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone, a priori finished, to be presented on the Croisette, although the filmmaker will be less invited.

We can also build on Midnight Special , the brilliant Jeff Nichols ( Mud , Take Shelter ) whose output is in November, as well as The Walk , the biopic about French funambuliste Philippe Petit directed by Robert Zemeckis. Barring a huge surprise, however, no Martin Scorsese or Tarantino in the program, whose films – Silence and The Hateful Eight , respectively – are somewhere between the shooting and post-production.

Each year, Sundance will undoubtedly provide one or two feature films for the Un Certain Regard. The Hollywood Reporter put on the winner of the last edition, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.

● Foreign films

First, we strongly suggest to Thierry Fremaux revise its basic Italian, the seventh art transalpine being in beautiful shape this year. Left empty-handed from the Croisette in 2013, the 68th Cannes Film Festival might be the right Paolo Sorrentino, ready to storm the Grand Théâtre Lumière with The Giovinezza . Marco Bellocchio and his colleagues Luca Guadagnino could certainly go up the steps, the first to present L’Ultimo Vampiro , the second for A Bigger Splash , a remake made in Italy Pool with a charming cast – Ralph Fiennes, Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton. Ditto for The Tale of Tales , Matteo Garrone, based on a classic of Italian literature, with Salma Hayek and Vincent Cassel. Finally, hard to imagine the artistic director of the Croisette does not show new work by Nanni Moretti, Mia Madre .

While the candidates from Eastern countries are more numerous each year, the Spanish filmmaker Alejandro Amenabar he will present Regression , with Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke?

Still in the Mediterranean, we think of The Lobster, fable of anticipation in English from the Greek Yorgos Lanthimos ( Alps , Attenberg ) bringing Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Léa Seydoux and Ariane Labed. Europe also has his chances with Love and Peace ( named On the milky road in its international version ) Serbian director Emir Kusturica, double webbed (for Underground in 1995 Time of the Gypsies in 1989). Obviously, the Italians evoke an interpretation prices for Monica Belluci. The paris may as well turn to Norway, since Joachim Trier, director of the excellent Oslo, August 31st, finished Louder Than Bombs with Isabelle Huppert . Do not forget the UK which relies on Icon , the new film by Stephen Frears.

The rest of the world also has a chance. Japan’s Naomi Kawase finished his comedy An , his colleague Shion Sono Japanese also. His drama Love & amp; Peace could also be selected, as well as Love in Khon Kaen of the Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Given the success of the recent achievements in the Argentine festivals, the focus is on El Clan , the mafia Pablo Trapero film.

Animation side, we could end the new Pixar, Vice Versa , but The Minions as well as the highly anticipated animated The Little Prince , adaptation of the eponymous book by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Prediction perhaps definitively confirm on April 16.
