CANNES. “The unknown girl”: the Dardenne had accustomed us to (even) better – L’Obs

Young doctor in a clinic in Seraing, a suburb of Liege, Jenny constantly guard, almost, his coat on. Except at the end, and then, for the first time someone touches it, she feels, sounds out, belly finally that affects people, but that people do not touch. This does not mean that they are indifferent to him, it is quite the opposite: Jenny intends to do good and good, and she succeeded

Only one night, one hour after. closing the office, she refuses to answer the doorbell, one; if there had been a second probably would she opened her door to this unknown young African whose body was found in the morning, just steps away. A surveillance camera captured the face of this nameless victim, Jenny shows the photo to everyone around her, in vain, amateur investigator walking on the broken police.

Here, murder , mystery, investigation, threats, the Dardenne brothers realized their fleece. Without changing anything in their way, summoning several of their regular players, Jérémie Renier, Fabrizio Rongione, Olivier Gourmet, Christelle Cornil. As before she Cécile de France ( “The Kid With a Bike”) and Marion Cotillard ( “Two Days, One Night”), Adèle Haenel is ready to play brothers, scowling, gesture and electrical approach, it is very well what is asked, but the role is not overly demanding, the young actress has already shown better.

the Dardenne too? Probably because the film lacks of times this tension that was their previous work at their point of incandescence and created this sense of urgency that made them essential. “The unknown girl” does not situated less to a level where few filmmakers can claim.

Pascal Mérigeau

“The unknown girl,” Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, with Adèle Haenel, Olivier Bonnaud, Jérémie Renier ( 1:53).
