Philippe Decouflé “I love the extravagance of David Bowie and his Master … – Télérama.fr

The choreographer tackles the myth Bowie with “Wiebo”, a show-concert performance. Exceptional cast, active public: we all get up

David Bowie he has a special place in your imagination!

Yes I Am. Teenager, I was very influenced by his music and his character. At 13, I discovered the album Hunky Dory and I loved that side of both rock and hovering. A song like Life On Mars I opened a single air musical space, I’ll try to find in the show. I also found a lot to him at that time. I had very long hair and dreamed of a little hippie life.

Have you ever danced to the songs of David Bowie?

Of course. In the festivals of the 80s, a song like Let’s Dance happening repeatedly. Meanwhile, when I was a student at the National Contemporary Dance Centre in Angers, I also participated in a small show with choreographer Dominique Boivin on a composition of David Bowie and Brian Eno. His music is very affordable. It’s easy to get into it. This spirit of celebration very linked to Bowie seems important to stage.

What type of dance involves listening to Bowie tubes?
Wiebo is more of a concert or festival – spectators will be standing – as choreography. The dance will obviously hot, simple and effective. A little sex, leaving the basin, but not much. Very physical anyway.

How androgynous character Bowie what he inspired the choreographer interested in the kinds of games you are?

This is an exciting figure. He was in constant transformation throughout his career, went from a look at the other maintaining a spirit, a graphic physical, delicate and particular. I like his excessive and MA in excess. The glam rock character Ziggy Stardust will be present in a sequence with wigs, platform shoes, slinky combinations … On the fifteen songs taken over by the orchestra conducted by cellist Pierre Le Bourgeois, I work with for some time, three titles come from The Rise And The Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars. They will highlight this senseless aesthetics. What is curious is that Bowie “transgender” is still one which everyone can easily relate to.

How do you embody Bowie?
>
It does not matter truly embody. Different people will continue discussions on the issue of gender. I invited the Belgian transvestite John Doe, with which I had wanted to work for the magazine Desire Crazy Horse. Musically, three styles and three singers will Directed by: Sophie Hunger folk, post-punk rock Jehnny Beth and the more minimalist, Jeanne Added. For air, I brought two circus acrobats, star of my show pair Iris choreographed in 2011 for the Cirque du Soleil.
