“Burn The Witch” by Radiohead, finally sound and good – Télérama.fr

By releasing, with the video “Burn The Witch”, the first song from their upcoming album, Radiohead allows to focus, instead com strategies’ and marketing who occupy increasingly the field , music. The key, therefore.

It is the little bird is finally out. In this case, the first track from the upcoming album of Radiohead. It was time, because that by pretending to play the difference, to impose its own rules on the margin, the group of Thom Yorke ended up not distinguish these kings of buzz and hype that are orchestrated Kanye Rihanna, Drake and Beyoncé: its strategy of com ‘and launch began to occupy all the ground at the expense of the essential music

Burn the Witch . so there, promoted with an animated clip (completed in a few days) in a spirit very Playmobil, actually directly inspired by the children’s series British sixties Trumpton magazine sauce Wicker Man , fantastic cult movie from 1973 with Christopher Lee. So much for the visual joyful in which you will understand, we do not see the tail of a member of the Oxford quintet. Fortunately, we hear them. And not that tasty rattle Yorke, haunting and plaintive as we like. We hear a welded new group, five individuals who find themselves for the better, rejuvenated by their solo activities, determined to offer something both familiar and new.

Here, no featuring bling bling at home Coldplay or raised stars of industrial R’n’B, a feature ultra bankable. A delicate waterfall ropes as a staccato riffs, a deaf and hypnotic groove, calmer weather breaks with violins and singing waving, hooting, captivating Yorke who always seems to dig the first groove group of the worrying lack of communication in a world where everything is shown and monitored. A song like a melody that resembles nothing formatted, which only obeys its own logic and that after a few listens, seems almost obvious.

In other words, everything you expects Radiohead, like, at random, a Kate Bush. Not a tube designed in the laboratory by marketing experts, but the sound of artists who still seek to (be) surprise. For the record, Android Paranoid and its 30 unique 6mn had horrified the record labels and radio programmers before becoming one of those hits that are atypical date. In other words, Burn the Witch is a good omen for the rest of the album (planned for June, say) which is not known if it will follow that line or brew, once again, all styles (electro, rock, acoustic …).
