The absence shines stronger than the golds

Under the rha of the Konserthuset, the nine winners, who were present, received at the hands of king Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden a gold medal and a diploma (each Nobel prize is a cheque for 8 million Swedish krona, a little over 824.000€).

Winner of the prize for literature, Bob Dylan, living legend of american music, had profusely apologized, citing “other commitments” after a long silence very commented.

There was, therefore, not present in the majestic room decorated with floral arrangements of pink and red offered by San Remo, the Italian city where Alfred Nobel died on 10 December 1896. He should be receiving his price in his own hands by 2017.

in order To overcome this absence, the singer, writer and american poet Patti Smith, a great admirer of Dylan, he interpreted one of his best-known songs, “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall”.

Overwhelmed by emotion, the singer stopped a moment, seemingly searching for words, before to apologize and resume, supported by the hearty applause of some 1,500 guests sorted on the shutter, members of academies, political institutions, and business circles.

The enigmatic Bob Dylan, a 75-year-old, has sent an acceptance speech which will be read in the evening at the conclusion of the banquet Nobel at the Stockholm City hall.

The most prestigious prize, the Nobel peace prize, the only one awarded in Oslo in accordance with the wishes of Alfred Nobel, was awarded in the afternoon to colombian president Juan Manuel Santos.
