I learned with great sadness the death of our dear Edmonde Charles-Roux. She was the founder of our association and Research Center Foundation Elsa Triolet – Aragon in 1985 and presided since then, as the Foundation Elsa Triolet – Aragon which was to create a little later. It was “our President”, but so much more than that! We loved him for his elegance of spirit and height of view, for his immense culture, for his books and characters out of the middle that looked like him so much. We admired him for his honesty and exemplary life of his fights.
She loved youth and was concerned about his future. She came regularly to Saint-Arnoult and we talked about “her friend Elsa” poetry of Aragon she knew on the fingertips of what we imagined to transmit all this literary heritage and give life to home of the two writers. She also knew why interpellate the highest state authorities. I still remember those meetings where she asked me to come talk to him about the Soviet revolution, writers and Proletkult. Together, we even visited his request the Parisian apartment of Lenin. She wanted to “realize” for purposes of the book she wrote on the son of Gorky and that it will able to finish.
The last time I saw her in a center Care where she had been rushed, she took with her a complimentary toiletries and two volumes of the Pleiades: The communists, Aragon. The last time I spoke to him on the phone, her nephew told me that she had with her, Aurélien. She had resigned from all his many responsibilities, but she remained to the end “our President”. Elsa, Aragon, with it, a faithful and steadfast friendship.
Now, the team of “Moulin” of Saint-Arnoult is in mourning. With its Board of Directors, she will honor him soon.
