Kenneth Branagh, known for his adaptations of Shakespeare’s works, is now trying to adapt Cinderella , the Disney cartoon. This amateur of the large gap surprised again for his prowess.
When talking about Kenneth Branagh, we immediately think of its classic adaptations such as Henry V (1989), Much ado about nothing (1993), Othello (1995), Hamlet (1996), Love’s Labour’s Lost (2000). Today, at 54, some are surprised to see the realization of Cinderella , the live action adaptation of the classic Disney.
And yet, after all these successes Shakespearean – especially Hamlet , which won many awards – he has repeatedly involved as an actor in productions away from his favorite classicism, as in The Gingerbread Man (1998), Celebrity (1998), or Wild Wild West (1999). He even lent his voice to the character of Miguel in the cartoon The Road to El Dorado (2000).
And it was better! He has participated in several blockbusters in which it is certainly not expected. The actor plays Professor Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002). Five years later, he directed Sleuth , a 1972 thriller remake with Jude Law and Michael Caine. The following year, he played a German officer alongside Tom Cruise in Valkyrie . Finally interpreter Minister Dormandy fighting against a pirate radio station in Rocked (2009).
But whatever happens, we can never take away this lug characteristic it has gained with the adaptations of Shakespeare’s works, which feels wonderfully in accomplishments such Thor (2011) and The Ryan Initiative (2014). So no surprise to see him try to fairytale. The question is whether we will find its classical and dramatic paw, as we love it so much …
