The writer and Nobel laureate Günter Grass died in Lübeck ( Germany) on Monday April 13 at the age of 87 years. In September 1999, the one nicknamed “the eternal nobélisable” Günter Grass, finally received the highest award in literature.
His major work, “The Drum”, published 40 years earlier, had already received the film honors with the Golden Palm at Cannes in 1979. Through Oscar, this little three year old child clinging to his drum and do not want to grow, the German writer denounces the suffering experienced by German youth during the Second World War, to which hid the horrors of Nazism.
Human left, engaged in the SPD, its humanistic convictions will even make him leave the party. Then he created controversy when, in a poem, he accused Israel of threatening world peace.
