The musical “Cats” settles for 90 performances at the Theatre Mogador.
On stage, there are 22 singers and dancers. But beware, not who wants to chat! “You have to find all the technical qualities of dance, singing and actor with the right personality of the artist who is the cat that he will be able to integrate and work,” explains Véronique Bandelier, director.

A make the perfect shoe
First stage of metamorphosis: makeup. It’s two hours before each show. After the face, up to the body, which must be flexible like a feline. “Much has watched the cats, we try to find a feline position with a lot of flexibility,” says a dancer

The show opens with a dump decor: old car carcasses, stove ageless, miscellaneous debris … The largest annual gathering of “Jellicle Cats” will open. The performers leap all over the stage, dressed in striped tights way alley cats, in shades of gray and brown. Tomcats leaping bear names often inspired by TS Eliot’s literary news of his time. And the terrible Macavity is a caricature of Moriarty, the nemesis of Sherlock Holmes
A dozen musicians play music behind the scenes. The score signed by Andrew Lloyd Webber is more jazzy, and Gillian Lynne choreographed show off the flexibility of cats.
Essentially, the musical presented at Mogador resumes production from 1981 modernized last year for his return to London Palladium. For example, a cat rapper takes the place of the original rocker …
A cult comedy born in London
“Cats”, created in London in 1981, has already won 73 million spectators in the world and has been translated into fifteen languages. The show is inspired by the poems of a cat lover, the English writer TS Eliot, who even dedicating some of his poems to her own cat, “Jellylorum.”
In France, especially one knows the show’s title song, “Memory,” performed by Barbra Streisand particular . (“Midnight, not a sound from the pavement …”).
She is here translated as all the musical, in French. The words are hardly win in poetry (example: “Take my hand, you will find the key to happiness”). But the melody is still haunting
This is the second time “Cats” is presented French in Paris, after first coming in 1989 at the Théâtre de Paris.
