The pianist and singer died Sunday at the age of 78 years died of cancer. He leaves behind a major musical career, which began in the late 60s.
The world of tango has lost one of its the most iconic musicians. The singer and Argentinean pianist Juan Carlos Caceres died Sunday at the age of 78 years, said his entourage Wednesday. His son, Tobias Caceres, said the musician had died of cancer at his home in Périgny in the Val-de-Marne, near Paris.
Born in Buenos Aires September 4, 1936 , the Argentine was a painter and training student at the Fine Arts. He started in music in the late 60s as a trombonist. After moving to Paris in May 1968, he became one of contemporary tango of leading figures from the 80s.
With his husky voice and various musical inspirations, such as jazz and African music, he created a wild tango by incorporating candombe rhythms (musical genre developed in the Uruguay area, blending elements of African, indigenous and Catholic).
Juan Carlos Caceres was one of the first artists to have joined the Manana label structure dedicated to tango and Argentinian music launched in 2004 by Eduardo Makaroff, member of Gotan Project group. It is within this label that the musician has released his latest album in 2011 titled Noche de Carnaval , where he combined the style of tango in various instruments such as bass clarinet, saxophone and cello.
