This Saturday, October 3, the Parisian Nuit Blanche is back. On the occasion of COP21 to be held in December on the Paris site, many artists have placed the environment at the heart of their work. Regardless of the area, there’s something for everyone!
Melting Ice, City Hall – 4th district
You will discover a chilling monument on the steps of City Hall. Designed by Chinese artist Liu Zhenchen, this installation consists of 270 blocks of ice, representing the countries of the world into five groups-continents. As the night progresses, these blocks of ice will melt and disappear completely at 7am. Through this work, the artist reveals the dramatic consequences of global warming on our planet and the urgency to act.
“And if we had made a mistake?”, Irish Cultural Centre – 5th arrondissement
Here, fifteen artists point the finger disorders weather (heavy rainfall, cyclones, heat waves, floods, pollution) through photographs and videos. A striking exhibition that questions the impact of our consumer society and globalization on the environment
A Cloud, Little Belt -. 18th district
Stéphane Ricordel wanted to realize a childhood dream: jumping from a cloud that floats to fifteen meters above the old railroad of the Little Belt. A metaphor to show that man acts without worrying about the consequences on nature.
A giant wave, Clichy Batignolles Park – 17th district
The artist Daan Roosegaarde wanted to illustrate the major problem of the rising waters. He imagined a huge wave and placed three meters from the ground, covering Paris. A poetic way to measure the consequences of a potential rising waters due to global warming.
“Extinction”, square Claude Bernard – 19th district
collective of architects The Thank goodness has chosen to denounce extinction of many animal and plant species through the work “Extinction” at the Square Claude Bernard. They thus set a hundred beacons that sound like alarm signals and show the urgency of finding a solution with regard to climate change.
A boat failed, Saint-Merry Church – 4th district
Saint-Merry Church welcomes the installation “Omen” of Djeff and Mr. Moo . After the tsunami in Japan, where cargo ships ran aground in the cities, the two artists have imagined that a similar event occurred in Paris and proposed to Saint-Merry Church to expose a stranded boat in its nave.
The night of bees, Parc Monceau – 17th district
Erik Samakh proposes a sound installation. This contemporary artist recorded in the south of France insect noises, birds and amphibians he proposes to listen to be aware of the disturbances that men inflict on ecosystems in place. The public will, through sight and hearing, to the extinction of many species …
Put yourself in the place of another, Interdisciplinary Research Center – 4th arrondissement
The White Night is not intended only environmental, it also wants social. The artists’ group BeAnotherLab has developed a machine to get into the skin of someone else. A invetion to develop empathy and understanding of the future.
