Women in the life of Leila Bekhti – Télérama.fr

“The Astragalus” Brigitte Sy, the actress Leila Bekhti offers a new trip to the filmmakers and makes for the occasion, a tribute to strong women who crossed his path.

Albertine Sarrazin is a pioneer. This is the first writer – born in Algiers in 1937 and died in Montpellier at the age of 29 years – to have told his life on the run and prostitution in a book. The Astragalus , published in 1965, is suitable for the second time at the movies. The first time was by Guy Casaril in 1969. Today is the director Brigitte Sy bringing to the screen heroine whose life has been affected by a fracture of the talus – a small bone the foot. Through this character, Leïla Bekhti, the interpreter of All that glitters or The Source is a delicate foray into auteur cinema, different from its Previous filmography: one feels the New Age fragrances. The actress explains how Brigitte Sy, and through it, Albertine Sarrazin, have a special place in his life … the other women sides of “pillars” .

The director Brigitte Sy

“I had the chance to meet her there more than seven years. We shot together in a medium-length film of Rachid Hami, Choosing to love with Louis Garrel. She played the mother of Louis [what it really is in life, Ed], a very racist mother. Then it was found on A Better Life Cédric Kahn. Now it is part of my life. There are no filters, we speak of our lives before we talk about work. I read Astragalus in one evening, before reading the Brigitte scenario. I really have the feeling of having met Albertine through his eyes. “

The novelist Albertine Sarrazin

” This role has a very special place in my life. It’s so enjoyable to play a character who is far from home. I put forward many differences I had with Albertine but I knew as soon as she did, I could go after all for love. By meeting Albertine, I understood things about me. College or high school, I had a hard time identify with characters that had not really existed. I would have loved to study Astragalus at the time. This woman waiting to be loved, it is unfortunately a theme so intemportel … I am extremely appreciative of the people who put words to their stories. And sometimes it was stupidity, pretend to believe they wrote them for us.

His French teacher

” Many teachers have marked me. I could not imagine otherwise than by train to teach. My French teacher in Montrouge is someone who meant a lot. She was super steep, I was fascinated by it. I loved teachers that nobody liked. She had a speech impediment. I had a real thing with teachers: I was working with those I loved
.
I also think a theater teacher I had in high school, in second and first, which made me surprised to see me when I was playing at the theater with Edouard Baer. It came as a surprise to me on the set of a show, she told in high school I was hiding behind baggies and thick sweaters. “

Italian actress Giulietta Masina

” At the age of eight, I went to La Strada with my class. When I returned home, my mother asked me how was the movie, and I said “The lady, she speaks with her eyes! “. I realized after that it was a great actress. Today I have a portrait of her that sits in my living room. “

Actress and director Nakache

” This is my sister, she’s a friend before being a director. This is my family now. It is cheesy, we live in a street, it sucks! Before we lived in another district of Paris, one block too! “

His mother

” This is the woman who has the most, with my sister. Without them I would not be here today. And more generally, my family. These are my pillars. The word “support” is too weak to define the strength they give me. “
