Perugino, a great master of the Renaissance – The Point

This exceptional exhibition traces through fifty masterpieces on loan from major Italian institutions and major international museums, major stages in the career of the Italian painter (1448-1523) born in Città della Pieve , near Perugia, in Umbria. Marked by his Florentine painting in the second half of the fifteenth century to its great success in Rome and Perugia training Perugino studied in Florence on various works of Piero della Francesca. By adopting a new painting technique, he created a new pictorial language and became an innovative painter. His growing fame, Perugino was quickly recognized and controls abound. It opens two workshops, one being located in Perugia, the other in Florence. The young master Raphael chose him to form the painting.

Considered one of the greatest painters of Italy, Perugino addresses the themes of the Crucifixion, the Virgin and Child or the Ascension. From 1480 to 1482, he participated in the decoration of the fresco in the Sistine Chapel where he supports himself the side of the altar. During the last years of his life, Perugino continues to produce many paintings, but he has difficulty renewing his art. The masterpieces of Perugino adorn the Sistine Chapel alongside Botticelli, Rosselli and Raphael.
