VIDEOS. Disney Star Wars toggles the dark side of marketing – L’Express

Disney continues to deploy the full force of its marketing offensive. Last night at midnight, some stores were open to sell the new toys from Star Wars. Little trip in the galaxy of the most significant innovations.

From remote controlled robot drone Millennium Falcon

Apart figurines and rather classic suits and already famous three-pointed lightsaber, Disney also made so to satisfy the most geeks of Star Wars fans. The proof with this robot, the famous BB8, which has already won the hearts of aficionados, even before the film’s release. This successor to R2D2 is available for sale in the form of a small robot that we can take orders via their smartphone. All for the modest sum of 170 euros.

The LEGO Danish company, which has many years of the Star Wars license, provides for its more traditional versions spaceships accompanied by new figures. What delight the young and old, which will still have to offload more than 180 euros to acquire the famous Millennium Falcon.

But the Disney marketing team also managed to marry the trends of the moment, by offering for sale a drone of the same vessel, with four rotors of up to over 60 meters. All for about 116 euros.

To support this show of force, described as a “blitz marketing” by the US media, the official YouTube account Star Wars was even broadcast live a “toy unpacking” worldwide, Rio New York to Toronto. Four hours reviews new objects to drop under the tree, for the fans of the fans.

Clues to the next film

For the most knowledgeable fans of the saga, this commercial high mass was also an opportunity to glean some clues about the script and the characters in the next film. On forums and other specialized sites, speculation is rife.

It notes in particular the emergence of new “stormtroopers”, including the “Elite Troopers”. The style of these imperial guards in black and red armor is also very commented.

Nothing very conclusive yet, but new toys will be sold before the worldwide release of the film.
