Mostra: Golden Lion Roy Andersson for “A pigeon sitting on a … – Le Nouvel Observateur

Venice (AFP) – The Swedish film “A pigeon sitting on a branch, reflecting on the existence” of Roy Andersson, won Saturday the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival this year that rewards reflection on the human condition with a very unique style.

In a year marked by wars selection, crises and other calamities of the world, reflections of our time, Roy Andersson’s film appears as a work apart.

Quick Succession of humorous skits, he attempts a reflection on the absurdity and the meaning of life through the eyes of a seller Novelty and friend with mild psychological disorders.

“It is a great honor to receive this award and especially here in Italy, a country that has given so many masterpieces in cinema,” said Roy Andersson receiving his trophy on stage Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido.

The filmmaker has chosen a film of these masterpieces, “The Bicycle Thief,” Vittorio De Sica (1948), and in this film, stage, “the husband of this couple in need who is forced to carry his bike pawnshop and realizes that many of the poor as it brings their bike.”

If it was not among the favorites of leading Mostra, Roy Andersson’s film was, however, caught the attention of some critics who said his very particular writing.

Favorite from the start to the final victory, however, “The look of silence “the American Joshua Oppenheimer, who referred to the bloody 1965 anti purification in Indonesia, walks away with the Grand Jury Prize.

In this poignant documentary, the film follows a survivor family and especially the last born, Adi Rukun, aged 44 at the time of the shooting and decides to investigate the death of his elder brother, who died in 1965, three years before his birth.

Adi Rukun “wanted criminals who perpetrated these crimes acknowledge what they had done and that it was a mistake, “said Joshua Oppenheimer in a video message in his absence.

Other satisfaction Transalpine production, American Adam Driver gets the male acting award for the same film.

Already awarded the Grand Jury Prize in Venice In 2002, Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky (“Runaway Train”) won this year’s Silver Lion for best director for “The Postman’s White Nights” poetic fable where he describes the daily life of a small Russian village lost.

“I feel like a child discovering his gifts under the Christmas tree but tomorrow we will wake adults,” said the director of 77 years who is the brother of director Nikita Mikhalkov.

If there is a surprise in this edition of the Venice Film Festival, it comes from the favorite “Birdman” Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu of Mexican, who had kept in mind predictions throughout the Venetian decade, and who leaves empty-handed.

Disappointment also in the French camp, however, came in full force with four representatives of the twenty competing for the Golden Lion but gets no reward but with the exception of Marcello Mastroianni Award (best young performer) attributed to the young Roman Paul.

Touching the film Alix Delaporte, “Last hammer he plays Victor, 13, who has to take its destiny while her mother was ill and that his father never wanted to admit.

A Turkish movie, “Sivas” Kaan Mujdeci, has meanwhile won the Special Jury Prize.
