TONIGHT ON TV – The journalist presents Orchestra Seats , on France 3, a great evening with operatic bass-baritone Ruggero Raimondi .
Since leaving 7 of 7 , in 1997, the journalist has made unusual on TV. It makes its comeback on France 3 with exceptional classical evening.
Why did you agree to host this show?
I love Classical music and opera. When Morgane Production and France 3 have contacted me to present an ambitious emission around Ruggero Raimondi with a young generation of classical musicians and singers, it made me a blast! This is private land that I love since my grandmother took me to see Faust when I was a child.
Did you want to come back to television?
Not at all! Yet it has often asked. But this is the first time we propose something different and I like. It would have been on the radio, I would have done too. Present this show was enchanting.
And you knew Ruggero Raimondi?
I had interviewed after Don Giovanni Losey first opera film – and not filmed opera – which made its glory. This is a singer who quickly embraced the notion of theatrical play. In his master classes, he teaches his students to ask their voices, but also to play. Hence the importance of a meeting with Éric Ruf, director of the Comedie-French.
How did you feel about this back on the small screen?
The television is like riding a bike, it is not forgotten! Although I had never had to manage a tray with fifteen guests, 75 musicians and the public. But with a little job that I have and a playground that I love, it was great fun.
Will there other issues of Orchestra Seats ?
No doubt. Nothing is excluded. For me, this issue was a gift, but I do not feel like a recurring issue. It should also coincides with a monument of classical music that I would want to “operate” as Daniel Barenboim. And I have enough to do with my morning interview on Europe 1 [about 1.7 million listeners, note] and the editorship of the news website Huffington Post I launched four years ago.
What is your outlook on television today?
Many programs are similar with the chroniclers and a spat obliged to give rise to controversy. What really changed is the continuous info. Like what iTV or BFMTV offer. While I have reservations about direct at all costs.
And political issues, anyone?
I have no desire to present. I like to change. I’m at a point in my life where I can choose. It is a luxury.
