The Franco-German-Turkish film, the critically acclaimed and audience, is one of nine pre-selected films for the distinction to be awarded on February 28 in Los Angeles. The five sisters will notably deal with the Son of Saul , the film presented by Hungary.
The French film shot Turkish Mustang and The All New Testament , which represents Belgium, are part of the nine shortlisted films for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, announced Thursday December 17, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The son of Saul , which represents Hungary and part as Mustang Favorites, it also appears in the list of pre-selected. Another film about the Holocaust, the German feature film Silence Labyrinth , the Colombian movie The embrace of the snake , A War Tobias Lindholm’s Danish, or Theeb , representing Jordan, are also retained. 81 countries presented this year a work for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Mustang , the feature debut of Franco-Turkish director Deniz Gamze Ergüven is a Franco-German-Turkish co-production of French initiative acclaimed by audiences and critics. Ode to freedom, Mustang , presented at the last Cannes Film Festival in the Directors’ Fortnight, which has been one of the revelations, tells the story of five sisters rebels, their family wants to marry force in a village in northern Turkey.
This is only the second time that France chose to present a non-Francophone Film Oscar after Orfeu Negro Marcel Camus Shot in Portuguese and rewarded in 1960. France has not won the Oscar for best foreign film since 1993 when Indochina Régis Wargnier, starring Catherine Deneuve, was rewarded.
The All New Testament still competing
The All New Testament , Jaco Van Dormael is an insolent comedy where God is in fact an odious man, with Benoît Poelvoorde, Yolande Moreau and Catherine Deneuve. The son of Saul , Laszlo Nemes, follows handheld camera the daily life of a member of the Sonderkommando, those Jews forced to collaborate in the Final Solution. Awarded the Cannes Grand Prix, it is also a first feature film.
Six of the nine films selected were chosen by “several hundred members of the Academy” and the other three by the Executive Committee of foreign language films of the Academy. The pre-selection will then be reduced to five finalists, who will be announced at the same time as the rest of the nominations in other categories, 14 January. The 88th Academy Awards will be held Feb. 28 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will be broadcast on ABC.
