“The Assassin”, and light saber – The Obs

The title of the assassin is her Nie Yinniang (the sublime Shu Qi), removed his men at the age of 10 and formed by a nun in the killer business. It is responsible for the execution of those that power the corrupt Tang Dynasty and declining designates as his enemies. And she immediately on screen evidence of a terrifying expertise, however, faulted during his next mission: the unexpected presence of the child of the man she was responsible for executing the leads to save its target.

the young woman is given a new mission, both punishment and means of eradicating it in any sense of pity. So, color splash screen, and expression makes sense: the images of the brilliant Mark Lee Ping Bin are extraordinary, and the eyes of those who, between the digital and the old 35 mm used here, know not make a difference, it will be a revelation. Light struggle with the shadows to flood the sets, the least element is a work of art, where the most mundane seem branch of unprecedented splendor. The film plays with veils and fabrics as well as with actors, and yet he never freezes at no time did the reconstruction frustrates his breath.

To see twice, at least

It’s that Hou is a master. He thought of the project ever since. Almost ten years have been necessary for it leads to the well, so that one was in despair that one day “the sword of the movie” the author of “the pain of the City” and ” Millennium Mambo “. He found himself leading the race itself to change his style, yet without renouncing the principles of cinema: it must be that the speed of the film takes moments and this is by mounting that translate the flashes of violence, knives whistling, light strokes and death, body launched into space, crossed lightning, striking sudden appearances.

It is not certain that everyone always finds it in the tracery of a winding and confusing plot, but familiarity with the history of China from the ninth century is not necessary. And if some dramatic developments may seem obscure, sometimes at the risk of dropping the viewer is that a film like “The Assassin” is to be seen twice. At least.
