An unexpected Palme
The Palme d’Or for “Dheepan” of Jacques Audiard was the surprise. If French has received several awards in Cannes, nobody expected the film in France on the course of Sri Lankan refugees on the top step of the podium. Many considered that it was not necessarily of great Audiard.
The triumph of the French
France is against all odds carved the lion’s share, winning three awards major, while his five films in competition were generally déçu.Outre the Palme d’Or, the French have won the best actor award, won by Vincent Lindon for its unemployed humiliated role in “The law of the market” Stéphane Brizé. They also received the Best Actress award, awarded to Emmanuelle Bercot for her role as woman in love in “My King” Maïwenn
The Italian defeat
France. 3 – 0. If Italy France has almost made full house, Italy went back empty-handed. For the first time in twenty years, Italy arrived with three films in competition – “Madre Mia”, Nanni Moretti, “The Tale of Tales”, by Matteo Garrone and “Youth” by Paolo Sorrentino. Two, Moretti and Sorrentino, were acclaimed by some critics. The explanation, laconic, came from Ethan Cohen, co-chairman of the jury with his brother Joel
. “We did not have prices for everyone.”
Too “bling-bling”?
The marks they take more and more space in the festival, to the detriment of cinema? Cannes is deemed “bling-bling” eight out of ten French and no longer dreaming, according to a survey Odoxa for the daily Le Parisien / Aujourd’hui published Sunday. An overwhelming majority deems inaccessible (78%) and elitist (73%). This eventmost covered by the media after the Olympics, does not dream (76%). The presentation by the President of Pierre Lescure festival’s new sponsor – the luxury group Kering (ex-PPR, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, led by François-Henri Pinault, husband of actress Salma Hayek) – astonished at the press conference announcing the selection. Especially since it was introduced long before the list of films in competition. Among other brands, Kering was present every day on the Croisette, with debates on the place of women in film.
