Fédorovski: “Catherine II of Russia is an early feminist” – Le Point

Writer of Russian origin, Vladimir Fédorovski is a former diplomat and promoter of perestroika, who was spokesman of one of the first Russian democratic movement, before devoting himself fully to writing. His latest book, The Pleasure Snow (at Albin Michel) traces the love story of the great female figures of Russia, after the age of 40 years.

this video, Vladimir Fédorovski evokes sentimental fate of Catherine II – “the greatest Russian Empress” in his eyes – with Lieutenant-General Grigory Potemkin. Ten years separate the two lovers. Catherine approaches the spring 45 when she met the handsome soldier 35 years. But according to the author, the sovereign had used to say that “the true stories of love, it is always after 40 years.” In his book, Vladimir Fédorovski evokes the catalog left by the empress, in which she wrote her different perceptions of love. Whether epistolary, timeless or total. For the former diplomat, Catherine II of Russia today is akin to early feminist, who was able to “lead men who accompanied to the pinnacle.”
