L writer and leading figure of the French edition Claude Durand, nicknamed “Claudius”, died on the night of Wednesday to Thursday at the age 76, announced Editions Fayard, whose house he had been CEO for almost 30 years.
The editor, who notably discover the French public Gabriel Garcia Marquez and edited and Alexander Solzhenitsyn Michel Houellebecq, left the presidency of Fayard in April 2009. He died at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, according to Fayard, who expressed his “immense sadness” in a short text.
