The Rolling Stones concert in Cuba on 25 March – The Point

The Rolling Stones have announced on their website that they would occur in Cuba for the first time on March 25 at a free concert in Havana. “We played in many special places in our long career, but this show in Havana landmark for us and to, hopefully, our friends in Cuba,” the group said in a message posted on its site. The concert will take place at the Ciudad Deportiva sports complex is part of the Latin American tour Ole Latina Tour group.



The rock, weapon of “American imperialism”

It will take place a few days after a historic visit to Cuba of US President Barack Obama, scheduled for March 21 and 22. Mick Jagger was last done in early October visit to Cuba during which he attended the concert including timba (near genre of salsa, Ed) of Bamboleo group in a room west of Havana.

After Castro’s 1959 revolution, rock music, considered a weapon of “American imperialism”, was banned for many years in Cuba before being gradually tolerated up win in state media over the past decade. Since the historic announcement in late 2014, the thaw between Cuba and the United States, many American and international artists have performed private stays on the island, including Katy Perry, Rihanna and Sting guitarist Dominic Miller.
